as we wake to another

You listen for the key turning, close your eyes
'cause the bankman needs, my sweat and blood
another pound is coming to release you from your ties
you read the dotted line, but you misunderstood

Well, the changes of life just happen
as you live a life in balls and chains
slavery sold with inhibitions
it's no wonder
you can't remember my name
as we wake to another
as we wake to another
as we wake to another day of rain

I'm the fools fool who knows to much
who forgets their destiny and wrong from right
I'm just glad you kept in touch
I'll work it out five minutes before midnight

I saw children drinking in their bitterness
fathers betting their hard earned cash
lost and groping in the darkness
breathing the fumes of the lightening flash
as we wake to another
as we wake to another
as we wake to another day of whip lash

Well I bow to you and your every wish
but that's not what's driving me insane
I gave you my soul, ate from your dish
when I could have released them from their pain

So I dressed up fine, shaved my face
sent you a postcard from another land
where life is cheap and everything is disgraced
where dolls prams are sold second hand
as we wake to another
as we wake to another
as we wake to another day where we misunderstand

I'm a prisoner in my own gaol
the news is selling me your thoughts
my classless face is turning gargoyled
better to be a have than a have not

Well my gaolers ask for forgivness
as they feast on my heart I turn away
I understand all the pain and sadness
it's all they know anyway
as we wake to another
as we wake to another
as we wake to another day

as we wake to another
They're calling out the names of the village idiots children
to come and watch breakfast telly until half past eleven
the shopping chanel is blocked with the lonely and the lost
who are looking for bargains in love from the celebrity host
the fog horn blows in a distant town
the teddy boys mother irons her evening gown
but her quest is fruitless as the fuse has blown
and the brothers of passion are talking talk
when will they learn to get of their knees and walk
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

Iron man is waiting in the silversmiths embassy
waiting for the goldsmith to claim to claim his territory
he's holding in his glove an ancient manuscript
that he stole from the shepard boys unmarked crypt
the newsman just announced there's an ancient scroll
that is priceless and holy that someone just stole
the only thing Iron my got was a noose round his neck
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

as we wake to another
Lost in space,lost in time
played double bass as I sanctioned every crime
I was south Moscow street bound
when, all the kings men fell down
took a leaf out of the picture book
bought more time and the latest look
I'm homeward bound,without a map
picked the loaded the dice from my bag of tricks
on the road to the land of the ancient mystics

Crowds are mourning, no reason to believe
nothing left to prove nothing left to achieve
it's something I never thought I'd concieve

Games I won with good loving lost
keep dreaming about all my ghosts
I look in the mirror and raise a toast
I'll sing with the shackled one fine day
take a little more time arranging bouquets
don't listen to fools two faces are always better than one
look at the time brothers, here's the fuel to put out the sun
gotta fight fire with fire, if you'd pardon the pun

Crowds are mourning, no reason to believe
nothing left to prove nothing left to achieve
it's something I never thought I'd concieve

I've seen the hope shinning from the light house
hopped and skipped on the tight rope coast to coast
reached the top had to stop I'm fishing in deep waters now
there's a lot I don't understand
sometimes I can't rely on my magic wand
wanna take a chance
