something to hawk

They're calling out the names of the village idiots children
to come and watch breakfast telly until half past eleven
the shopping channel is blocked with the lonely and the lost
who are looking for bargains in love from the celebrity host
the fog horn blows in a distant town
the teddy boys mother irons her evening gown
but her quest is fruitless as the fuse has blown
and the brothers of passion are talking talk
when will they learn to get of their knees and walk
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

Iron man is waiting in the silversmiths embassy
waiting for the goldsmith to claim to claim his territory
he's holding in his glove an ancient manuscript
that he stole from the shepard boys unmarked crypt
the newsman just announced there's an ancient scroll
that is priceless and holy that someone just stole
the only thing Iron my got was a noose round his neck
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

The lightening lights up the sky
all the people went out west
even king Kong stopped beating his chest
but the knights of Malta stayed, guarding history
like it was something precious that belonged to you and me
and the cripple with an inquisitive mind
who'd heard all the stories like 'the blind leading the blind'
wasn't the centre of attention as he picked the combination lock
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

Now the fatman was in the swimming pool
wearing sun glasses just feeling cool
I couldn't help but wonder what made him this way
as the hotel rooms were empty, they'd all ran away
but to him it didn't matter,he'd already picked his grave
shopping only for bargains and every penny he could save
he read stories about pirates and ship wrecks
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

The bus station is full of luggage
that couldn't fit on the inspectors page
so it was left by the fleeing
to make room on the stage
they huddled together the old and the young
just like their forefathers did a nation on the run
they don't know where they're going
stay out of their way,you they'll just mock
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

Now the lightening stuck gave out a bellowing roar
it frightened the prince of darkness to the core
so he packed his bag, ordered a taxi
but no taxi came to take him to his destiny
so he wrote his last will and testemant
as his hands were sweaty he began to pant
counting the seconds on his swiss clock
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk

Met the bald man who didn't have a license for his wig
he told me he was the grave digger with none left to dig
we met at the harbour that was full of boats and rafts
asked me if I wanted to be one of his sea fairing pirates
so i offered him rabbit stew with onion
as I pondered over his dreams and vision
wondering if he'd considered the whales and the rocks
as I look for inspiration and something to hawk
